Social Justice

The purpose of the Social Justice committee is to continue the ministry of Jesus by service to marginalized persons and persons with special needs; to promote and coordinate programs that will promote justice and charity in full measure to all of God's children; and to provide opportunities for parishioners to respond to the social needs of today.

Within our parish and in the wider Dubuque area there are several initiatives and Catholic organizations that work with the Church to help us live the two great commandments to love God and neighbor. All of these groups welcome more volunteers and are always in need of assistance.

We have volunteers that manage the ongoing provision of food and support through our three councils of the St. Vincent de Paul Society. In addition, as requested, members of our parish support the St. Patricks Meal Site, the Dubuque Rescue Mission and the Bridges Out of Poverty initiative.

At Christmas time multiple families and elderly are identified and then provided with gifts, food and support for the holidays.

One of our deacons is dedicated to supporting individuals with disabilities through Hills & Dales and Albrecht Acres with spiritual direction and religious education.

Our parish youth actively search for and organize service projects both locally and outside the area.

Our parish also participates with the Dubuque Downtown Organization of Churches, an ecumenical group, which focuses on interaction within neighborhoods and sponsors events throughout the year.
